Advancement opportunities in the medical field are everywhere! If you aren’t 100% sure what profession you are looking for but you know you want to be in the medical field, a medical assistant is a great place to start. This position will give you the opportunity to peak into a lot of different professions to determine if you would like to continue education in something other than medical assisting. First, becoming a CMA is a great way to take the first step in advancing your career. Receiving this certification has the ability to give you a more responsibility in the same position. From here, moving on to a medical office manager, medical administrative assistant, medical coding, or even a nurse.

If you decide you enjoy a specific task inside the range of medical assistant duties you can move forward in that specific area. If you enjoy helping with x-rays, you could move forward with a degree in radiology. Maybe you enjoy the phlebotomy part of medical assisting. You can move forward with a certification/degree in laboratory assistant.  Your options are countless.

If you choose a medical assistant school that is accredited, your classes could transfer to your nursing school of choice. You will have a head start on experience, terminology, and tasks of nursing from your medical assisting training.  This is a common path for many medical assistants as getting through school and clinicals tend to be easier than someone trying to enter the medical field for the first time.
